The human rights defender in the Tindouf camps and polisario opponent, Fadel Breika, denounced, Friday, before the Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, the repression and serious abuses perpetrated by the leadership of the separatists against the population of these camps under the responsibility of Algeria.
Intervening within the framework of the 43rd session of the HRC at the Palace of the United Nations, Breika pointed out the legal responsibility of Algeria in the atrocities committed by the separatist leaders and the Algerian services against the Sahrawis of the Tindouf camps, while condemning “the silence of the so-called defenders of the Saharawi people on the ill-treatment and violations committed against the Saharawis by the polisario leaders, with the complicity of the Algerian security services to silence, by fire and blood, any dissonant voice to the said camps.
Blogger, defender of human rights and opponent of the polisario leadership, Breika has just been freed from the convicts of the “polisario” where he had suffered for almost 5 months, with the two bloggers Mahmoud Zedan and Moulay Abba Bouzid, the worst physical and psychological abuse for having dared to denounce the serious violations of human rights and the depravity of the separatist leaders as well as their exploitation of the misery of the populations of the camps to serve their personal interests.
“My body still bears the marks of the wounds and the marks of torture that I suffered during the last five months of 2019 in the secret prisons managed by the polisario, with the blessing of the Algerian government,” said Breika before the members of the Human Rights Council.
He denounced in particular the repression against freedom of opinion and expression in these camps, stressing that all the voices opposing the leadership of the polisario are systematically subjected to torture and cruel abuse.
He explained that he and two of his colleagues, journalist Mahmoud Zedan and blogger Moulay Aba Bouzid, were kidnapped by gunmen from the Polisario for the simple reason that they condemned the serious violations committed by social media on social media. the leaders of the polisario.
The three Sahrawi activists will subsequently be detained, in violation of the law, in secret places “where they had been subjected to various types of torture and abuse”.
“My abduction is also an act of revenge on the part of the Algerian intelligence services which participated in my interrogations and tortures, only because I dared to organize a demonstration in front of the Algerian embassy in Madrid to demand the disclosure of the fate of my cousin and one of the polisario leaders, Khalil Ahmed Ibri, missing since his kidnapping in 2009 by the Algerian intelligence services in the Algerian capital, ”he continued.
He also said he was stunned by the silence “of the so-called defenders of the rights of the Saharawi people who swallow their language whenever there are violations committed in the Saharawi camps by the Polisario and the services Algerians, who take advantage of the absence of any recourse and protection mechanism and continue to suppress any dissenting voice or a different opinion ”.
In this regard, Breika called on the Human Rights Council and the international community to put pressure on Algeria to assume its legal responsibility as a country welcoming the Saharawi population of Tindouf.
