Pompeo’s Morocco visit was to foster economic and security cooperation, Department of State

The United States is determined to work with Morocco to make full use of the potential of all its citizens to ensure greater security and prosperity for both countries, the US State Department wrote, Thursday, following the visit of Mike Pompeo to Rabat.

In a statement released on Thursday, entitled «Visit of Mr. Pompeo to Morocco : Foster economic and security cooperation», the State Department referred to the «strong partnership» and the links bringing the two countries together in various fields.

Recalling that in 1777, the kingdom was the first country to recognize the United States of America, the statement highlights the fact that Morocco is the only country in Africa to have concluded with the United States a Free Trade Agreement.

«The United States and Morocco have an important partnership on economic development, as highlighted during the recent visit to Morocco of US President’s Senior Advisor Ivanka Trump, focused on the efforts of the Millennium Challenge Corporation and USAID to promote gender equality in all aspects of the country’s growth», said the same source.

The document also mentions the security plan at the regional and international level, recalling «the key contribution of Morocco, which plays a leading role in the security in Africa

The same source also welcomes Morocco as a «recognized regional leader in the promotion of religious coexistence and interreligious dialogue».
